First family hike – Thanksgiving 2014

I have been dying to get out with the kids and actually attempt a “real” hike. We have taken them to St. Edwards a few times and while it is certainly beautiful and we have always had fun, it has left me longing for something more.

Today we made our first attemp at Little Si. It is just over two miles to the top and we made it EXACTLY half way – to the little bench on the side of the trail that is surrounded by huge trees and rocks covered I moss. The kids did awesome and we were more than pleased with the experience (I think everyone surrounding me was afraid I had built it up too big in my head and was destined for disappointment). But truly, they did really well and we were happy to turn around half way. Funny thing is that it was Skyler that wanted to keep going, which I had not anticipated.
Although the plan was to have Leif carry Presley, she flipped out at the very beginning and guess who got to carry her in the front pack the whole way? Despite my calves being CRAZY sore, it worked out fine – she slept the entire time.
We headed home and had Aunt Chris and my mom for dinner.  Thankful for so much this year – especially that this family is still intact and for all the fun times and good laughs we have shared in 2014.
Feeling so blessed.
